Margarita

Here I am again at Massalina Bayou in Panama City, Florida. I've been wanting to paint this scene for a while as I liked how the buildings make an interesting backdrop for the boats which are my main subject. Knowing in advance how I wanted the scene to look, I knew I'd need to take some liberties with how I portray the structures. I changed the color a bit for more interest and made them a little lighter so they would recede slightly, thus, taking second stage to the boats. A few windows were suggested so to ease the industrial look that may be interpreted without them. It was mid morning and the sun was bright. This caused a nice reflection on the hull of the white boat (Margarita). I did my best to capture this effect of the bright warm white contrasting against the cool dark shadows under the dock. I knew this would be the most exciting area in the finished piece. I plan on returning to this location at a slightly different vantage point to do another piece as a mate to this one.
