Divine Miss Em

"Divine Miss Em" 6" x 8" oil on linen.
It's Saturday and we settled on a new location for today's "catch." We are at the old marina in St. Andrews, Florida. Once again, it's cold and even a bit damp. The forecast said it would be warming up as the day progressed but apparently that was some kind of joke or something. It just kept getting colder by the minute. James, via his whining rhetoric, expressed it was colder than the last time we went out but I think it was just that he didn't wear his "stylish" insulated jump suite. Despite the cold, we hung in there and got some painting done. I did my best to convey the cold damp day on this piece by keeping the background primarily cool gray colors. This, in return, helped bring the boat forward, making it the main focus. The name of my subject here was "Divine Miss Em" and it seemed to visiting us from Destin, Florida. I think this is one of the better plein air pieces I've completed lately. Hope you enjoy.
Below is my subject just before I started.

Hello Martin,
Your work is awesome, I'm glad to see you have taken to the plein-air painting like you have. Hopefully we will get the chance to paint together again this coming year. My style has changed drastically since our last paint out. Well until the next time, have fun. Brad
